Vengaaya Chutney – Onion Chutney



Frozen Small Onions – 2 packets (thawed at room temperature)

Dry Red Chillies – 4 -5

Salt – To taste

Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Urad Dal – 1 tbsp

Grind Onions, Dry Red Chillies & salt to a smooth paste. Set aside

Season little oil in stove, add Mustard Seeds. Let it sputter. Then, add Urad Dal & fry till it turns light brown.

Quickly add the paste & cook on low flame, covered. Keep stirring often until it becomes a thick paste. Add the rest of the oil to it & keep in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last for upto a month.

Note: The Onion paste will splutter for a while until the water is removed out of the chutney.

    Devi, tried the vengaya chutney last night and it came out so good. It took me less than 10 mins to prepare it and tasted so yummy with adai. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
