Chettinaatu PuLikuzhambu


Tamarind: 1 medium lemon size, soaked & strained

Curd Chillies (Mor Milagaai) – few, to taste

Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Channa Dal: 1 tsp

Sombu/sonf: 1 tsp

Methi Seeds: 1 tsp

Raw peanuts: 1 tbsp (optional)

Kuzhambu Karuvadaam: Handful

Asafoetida: 1 tsp

Curry leaves: a sprig

Nalla ennai/Sesame Oil: 2 tbsps

Garlic: Handful, cut into medium size pieces

Small Onions: 1 cup full

Salt: to taste

Brown Sugar/Vellam: 1 tbsp

Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp


Heat Oil

Add Mustard Seeds, then, fry Mor Milagaai, Raw Peanuts, kuzhambu karuvadaam till golden brown.

Add Channa dal till golden brown again. Then, add Asafoetida, Methi seeds, Sombu, curry leaves & mix.

Fry small onions. Fry until they are cooked.

Then, add cut garlic & fry for few more minutes.

Add strained tamarind water.

Season with salt, turmeric powder, brown sugar & let it become thick on its own.
